The project's lead architect, Diller & Scofield of New York, is known for their intensive focus on media in addition to innovative and unusual use of materials in architecture.

The museum will contain 18,00 SF exhibition space for contemporary art, a 5,300 SF theater with glass walls for experimental performance, music and film, as well as a center for cultural and educational activities.  The four-story structure will include permanent and temporary galleries featuring moveable interior walls and 18-foot ceilings.  Other features include a cafe and restaurant for indoor and outdoor dining, bookstores and gift shop.

The building will be a bold architectural statement, with the galleries constructed as a cantilevered space extending over the City's Harbor Walk.  Additionally, a vertically stepped-out space suspended from the underside of the cantilevered space serves as a digital media center.  The facade of the building will be a dramatic combination of glass, metal and wood.  Elements of the facade will be opaque, translucent and transparent.
