The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC) is being built on the
Boston waterfront. Construction of the Center will dramatically increase
Boston's capacity to host trade shows and professional association shows.
The facility will have a sub-divisible 600,000 square foot exhibition hall on
one level. A 50,000 and 25,000 square foot ballroom along with 72 meeting
rooms round out a total of 160,000 square feet of meeting area.

The design of the building responds by surrounding the vast volume of the exhibition hall with smaller scale
meeting rooms and social spaces, placing a 64 berth loading dock completely enclosed and away from view of the surrounding neighborhood.
The sloping exhibition hall roof helps to mediate the two scales.
The Central Chilled Water Plant located within the building is one of Flaherty's contributions to the project.
The chiller provides 7,000 tons of cooling capacity. The 1,800 horsepower boiler is fueled by 30,000 gallon fuel tank with
70,000 GPM pump capacity. The elaborate heating and cooling duct system is made up of nearly 2,000,000 pounds of sheet metal.
Completion is scheduled for late 2003.
